The Broomerang Tour: Europe 2015
And so beginneth another chapter in Michelle and Al's global travels: this time it's the 'Broomerang Tour'. Why a Broomerang, you might well ask? (Or is it, Why a Broomerang? You might well ask.) Either way, when we were originally planning this trip, we knew a few things: We were taking two months off, come hell or high water; we were going to Europe for a big chunk of it; we were spending about two weeks in Canada.
So one would imagine that the sensible thing to do would be to get a round the world ticket from Sydney (in either direction, really); a stop in Europe, a stop in Canada, back to Sydney, job done. But alas it wasn't that simple, especially when you factor in Al's distaste for any airplane that's not an A380. Also the fact he's a still a bit of a Scottish tightwad at heart. As we worked through the options, it quickly became clear that any round the world flight was going to have some pretty ugly stopovers in the good ol' U.S. of A. We have nothing against the States, but a 6 hour layover in Chicago followed by another 12 hours in LAX is nobody's idea of fun. Nobody we know, anyway.
Hence the Broomerang - out to Rome, then all the way out to Toronto via Paris, then the Broomerang spins back to Paris and back home. With a whole bunch of Fun-ness in between. Which we'll get to in the coming posts.
That's the other thing worth pointing out. We're on holiday, which means we've got looootts of spare time to write these things. Those of you reading along at home trying to squeeze in a broomblog on the commute to work, or while you're waiting for the bus... well, here's hoping you're a fast reader. We get paid by the word here. I mean, we're four paragraphs in here and we're not even at the airport yet!

Okay, here we are at the Qantas lounge. 5am on The Longest Day, yep that's champagne. We had exactly 15 minutes from when the lounge opened at 5 until we had to get to our gate, and we were making the most of it baby!!
So what happens next, you might ask? Well, you'll have to wait for the next post to find out. How exciting is this!
